Opinion: Current proposals to plant trees to fight climate change are badly misguided

Reforestation and afforestation can play a role in reducing carbon emissions — but “what” and “where” are critical considerations

It is surely time to pause and ask questions of tree planting and its consequences.

The downside is the tying up of land to forestry for the foreseeable future, with limited options for crop farming, livestock grazing or conservation of grassy ecosystems.
